(PRC) Building 130 and Sea Animal Research Center, NOAA, Naval Station, Hawaii, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Island of Oahu, Hawaii

  • Client: Department of the Navy
  • Contract Amount: $21,452,000

This project comprised the renovation of Building 130 located on Naval Station, Ford Island on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The building functions as the Marine Science and Storage Facility as part of the Pacific Regional Center (PRC) campus for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on Ford Island. Previously serving as a World War II-era aircraft hangar and having been designated as a facility of historic significance (Category III), this project transformed the historic building into a comprehensive research facility while observing strict historic preservation requirements. A few of the unique features of this center included multiple live animal seawater tanks with observation booths, a seawater production well 1,600 feet deep below sea-level, staff offices, highbay warehouse storage space with a mezzanine, and air conditioned gear storage.
