Child Development Center, Schofield Barracks

Maryanne Tane

LOCATION: Island of Oahu, Hawaii
CONTRACT VALUE: $44.7M

Nan, Inc. was awarded a $44.7M design-bid-build project to construct a large standard-design Child Development Center (CDC) under six years of age with adjacent outdoor play areas for children and supporting facilities at Schofield Barracks. In total, the project includes the 37,300-SF CDC building, 38,311-SF of playground area, and 146 parking spaces (2,550-SY). Option work awarded includes extension of the parking lot and improvements to the Thrift Shop Parking area. Overall project work involves site preparation, excavation, grading, buildings, landscaping, playgrounds, waterlines, civil, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, telecommunication, commissioning and testing, final connections, cleanup, and all incidental items necessary to complete the work. However before new construction work was able to commence, particularly as the current site was occupied by existing facilities of which some will remain in operation (Buildings 2102 & 2106), work also requires the demolition of existing Buildings 2101, 2104, 2105, and associated utilities (underground and overhead), which must be first preceded by hazardous material abatement and soil remediation.
