Nan Inc donates $1 million to St. Francis

Nan, Inc. Gives $1 Million to St. Francis

Dec 2013 — The compassionate care his mother received as a St. Francis patient compelled this grateful son to make a magnanimous gift of $1 million.

“St. Francis has a special place in my heart,” says Patrick Shin, who made the donation to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation under his construction company, Nan Inc. “I hope this contribution can help St. Francis in some way.”

The gift, which was made at the Foundation’s holiday reception in December 2013, will be used to support the 119-bed Clarence T.C. Ching Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) on the St. Francis Liliha campus. The SNF will be located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of the Sullivan Building, one of the existing buildings on the Liliha site previously used for the hospital. It will feature private and semi-private rooms, which will be different from most nursing homes in Hawaii that have mainly wards for four people or more. One of the floors is targeted to open in the spring of 2014.

By looking after both his mom and dad, Shin knows firsthand what adult children who are caring for aging parents are going through and believes the SNF will benefit the community.

“We are extremely pleased that Nan Inc. has embraced our vision for the skilled nursing facility,” says Sister William Marie Eleniki, OSF, St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii president, who oversees all fund development efforts. “This very generous gift was Patrick’s way of giving back to the community to show his appreciation. It’s always heartwarming to hear how St. Francis is making a difference in people’s lives.”
