This project involved the renovation of the first and second
floors of Building 1, a 3-story historic structure of approximately
108,000 square feet. The work included site work, structural
repairs and reinforcements, construction of new concrete slabs,
footings, structural beams, concrete accessible ramps, carpentry
and casework, finishes, mechanical (plumbing, air conditioning,
fire sprinkler), electrical (interior electrical utilities,
substation installation, security system, lighting, load centers,
underground electrical distribution, fire alarm system), landscaping,
and asbestos and lead abatement.
Significant features of work included: the replacement of
the existing fire sprinkler system, including the installation
of a new 8” first main (500 lf); replacement of all
existing corroded floor decking on wooden sleepers with new
gypcrete; meeting current code and ADA requirements; termite
repairs; and matching the original historical appearance of
the structure, including millwork, windows, and doors. Work
also included furnishing and installing furniture, and moving
the occupants back into the building after the completion
of work.
From the success of this project, Nan, Inc. was given a letter
from the Construction Management Engineer for outstanding
performance.
