Design-Build
Provide Elevator
and Fire Protection, & Renovate Building 150 (Design-Build)
and Repair Pearl Harbor Memorial Fountain, Building 150, NAVSTA,
Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii
Location: Pear Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii
Contract Value: $2.7 Million
Client: Department of the Navy
This high visibility design-build project involved the construction
of a new building addition for an elevator at Building 150,
to allow accessibility for persons with disabilities. It also
included the interior renovation of office spaces, one of
which was for the Admiral commanding the Naval Station. This
project was extremely challenging because it was to be executed
with an accelerated schedule and along side of simultaneous
renovation work being performed by the PWC shops. Therefore,
both construction activities shared a single construction
zone with the same access roads, storage areas, and building
space, which required constant coordination and logistics.
The scope of work included major excavation of 14’
near the building footprint, structural work for the concrete
elevator tower, mechanical and electrical service, installation
of the hydraulic elevator, and interior renovation work consisting
of windows, VCT flooring, carpeting, and systems furniture.
The scope also included the installation of fire protection
systems for the entire building, and repairing the memorial
fountain, which included new waterproofing, ceramic tile,
and an automatic self-filling pump system.
The success of this project resulted in a certificate of
superior achievement, and letters of appreciation from three
commanding officers because of the high visibility and degree
of difficulty.
